Opportunities to join the AMFAS Team
American Military Families Autism Support continues to look for new and innovative ways to support our families. The benefit of having a great community is that there are a lot of great ideas on what can be done better.
AMFAS is the first national community specifically for military families dealing with autism, started back in 2008. We aren’t a one-stop-shop for all special needs, which allows us to focus on delivering the most concise interest items for our families dealing with ASD and provide support no one else can match.
If you’ve thought about how you can make a difference for military families dealing with autism, we have a number of opportunities.
Our first question for anyone interested in helping is, “What is your passion?” It’s a simple question that says a lot about you and how you can help most effectively. We want people who have a passion for helping, for contributing in a way that fits their interests and time.
Unlike other autism organizations using fundraising, interns and hired positions to be supportive, AMFAS is an all-volunteer force of actual military families who are in the trenches in the autism fight. Contributing a small amount of your time is a force multiplier in our cause. Our families are not out to make a name for themselves by starting their own venture, but see the benefit of working together to make a difference for our families.
If you live in an area needing more support, why not volunteer to start an AMFAS group. If there’s a group in your area, join in.
If you have a blog, we want to add yours to our AMFAS Blogging Community. We built a site specifically to promote your blog and send people to your page! We are also looking for people interested in submitting blog posts for our AMFAS Update blog.
If you like working issues and solutions, be part of the solution in taking up a leadership role with us. We need people who want to contribute by joining one of our AMFAS Teams.
As our mission statement is providing news, information, community and support to military families dealing with autism spectrum disorder, our teams follow a similar cadence:
News Team supports the AMFAS News Service through writers, journalists, bloggers, photographers, graphic artists, videographers and media specialists.
Information & Resources Team supports the AMFAS information program regarding any relevant need-to-know information on military and autism topics, and our Worldwide Installation Resource that allows visitors to add/search/rate/review support locations around every military installation worldwide.
Community Team helping to organize events, collaborate with local areas and improve outreach. Also help to work with outside organizations as part of the Friends of AMFAS program.
Support Team helps by having a pool of people with knowledge on a particular topic. Do you know IEPs, TRICARE, Service-specific EFMP, etc., then be our subject matter expert to help out.
Web Team works to consistently improve the AMFAS experience. If you have website skills, to include graphics, apps, code, video, etc, specific social media platforms, like to Tweet, use Pinterest, Facebook, Tumblr, join in expanding the support AMFAS provides.
This is just a small look at some options available to you. For more information or to get started, contact us at info@amfas.org.
